I bought a vintage pet carpet - how do I clean + care for it?

These carpet rugs were originally made for use as prayer or door mats so are designed for high traction areas + contact - they absorb and retain mild liquids, dirt, and, debris.

Vacuuming our carpets - you vacuum both sides of the rug. You should make sure to do this outside, on a clean cement slab or in a garage. Be careful not to get any fringe stuck in the sweeper.

Cleaning our carpets - make a soapy water solution with rug shampoo or mild dish soap. apply this to the rug and use a firm sponge to scrub gently. Keep your strokes going the same direction to avoid roughing up the materials. If your rug has fringe edges, you can use the same solution and cleaning method, but you might want to replace the sponge with a laundry brush. Rinse clean with a garden hose - spray nozzles work best for debris.
